The Helmet from Bojná (?)

PDF

Dear reader, this article represents something special for me. It describes the helmet from the 9th or 10th century that was found in Slovakia. Moreover, analogies are also mentioned. The type of the helmet that I call “Stromovka – Bojná – Gnezdovo” is described in English for the first time. I spent almost four years gaining the information.

2026 Addendum

The helmet remains missing, and the second photograph of the object has not been disclosed either officially or unofficially. In 2022, the author had the opportunity to personally examine the nasal of the Stromovka helmet, which exhibits strong similarities to the nasal of the Bojná helmet. It appears that, contrary to the proposed schematic drawing, the nasal was more profiled, featuring varying thicknesses and reinforcing ribs in the center of the material. This conclusion is further supported by another recent discovery – the helmet from the Kozel Chateau, Czech Republic. Furthermore, another newly discovered artifact, a helmet fragment from Pohansko, Czech Republic, indicates that the aventail holder did not necessarily have to be secured with rivets as densely spaced as suggested in the original reconstruction.

In July 2026, the author met with Dr. Pieta, who maintains the version that the helmet was discovered in the center of the acropolis of the Bojná hillfort. According to a speech he delivered to the audience, the helmet was sold by the finder to Munich, while its aventail was handed over to the staff of the Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) Nitra. The author’s investigation is ongoing.

  1. Hello. I was wondering, would it be possible that you tag the future English language articles with the “English” keyword?
That way it would be a lot easier to locate the English articles 🙂

    Regards
